America’s best loved doctor starts his day with a sip that’s proven to facilitate weight loss and optimized health. If you do just one thing differently for your health this year, follow his lead and make this be it!

When Mehmet C. Oz, M.D., director of the Integrative Medicine Program at the Columbia University Medical Center and host of the Dr. Oz Show, marked his milestone 100th episode on air, he toasted the success of his studio audience 100 people who’d lost 13,000 pounds combined with a vivid green drink.  And when he invited Chicago Mayor Richard Daley onstage to announce the Dr. Oz Health Expo, a history making event designed to optimize the health, weight and waist size of an entire city, what beverage did his honorary assistant, Oprah, serve up?  You guessed it green glasses clinked again.

Call it the sip that started a wave:  Dr. Oz’s humble blend of cucumbers, apples and leafy greens has ignited a trend.

What makes Dr. oz’s signature sip such a breakthrough beverage?  As America’s healthy guru, Dr. oz himself cites the fact that it compensates for one of our top concerns that we are simply not getting sufficient nourishment form standard diets.  “We know we have to have at least five fistfuls of leafy green vegetables and fruit every day, so we make a morning green drink,” he has said. “It only takes a minute to  make, and it’s inexpensive.”

Plus, there’s ample evidence to suggest that even if we could eat five cups of leafy greens a day, we wouldn’t get as many benefits as we do from juicing them.  The credit goes to the mechanical processes of blending and juicing that helps break apart plant-cell walls better than even the most persistent chewing could, which give green drinks an intestinal absorption edge that food from produce can’t match.  “Breaking apart those plant cell walls has an effect much like throwing marbles at a chain link fence”, “Their contents go through in a way that tennis balls just can’t.”

These readily absorbable micronutrients do more than just slim, they optimize overall health and wellness.  “Drinking fresh juice gave me a lot of energy, which I noticed after just a few day,” says Debbie Briglovich Andio, 47, of Austintown, Ohio, who lost weight drinking Dr. Oz’s concoction. “But I really started to like them when I noticed that my periods and PMS were less severe.”

Here, the science behind green drinks’ transformative powers and the reasons they fire up metabolism, speed slimming and supercharge health in ways that nothing else can.

Enzymes Speed up Fat Burning

In addition to nutrient deficiencies, elite nutritionists now name another deficit as a major contributor to stubborn fatigue and weight gain: enzyme depletion, which strikes more than three quarter of women by the age of 35.  Digestive enzymes produced by the liver and pancreas are needed to break down food and absorb its nutrients, but those organs also produce metabolic enzymes that assist in the breakdown and burning of fat.  The body’s ability to produce enzymes drops off naturally over time, plus, enzymes in foods are easily destroyed by heat, so diets high in cooked and processed fare can’t supply them.  This causes a shortage that forces enzyme producing organs to work overtime on digestion.  And that results in metabolism taking a backseat.  Luckily, green drinks raw fruit and vegetables (leafy greens in particular) are chock full of inner “activators” that reverse the draining trend:   “Their enzymes provide a digestive assist that reduces the workload on the liver and pancreas, allowing them to focus on their metabolic tasks like fat burning and energy production”

Lesley Scott, 45, dropped pounds thanks to the green smoothies

“I’ve never been thinner or in better shape,” Lesley says. “It’s awesome to think that when you’re in your mid 40’s and are premenopausal, you don’t have to pack on the pounds you can actually do the opposite!”

That’s also true for Florrie Wallace, 48, she quickly dropped pounds she hadn’t been able to despite 25 years of trying after she started blending and juicing her greens, “So many diets had failed in the past,” shares Florrie, who likes to blend assorted greens with fresh strawberries for a high fiber sip that’s sweet and creamy, “I figured this would be my last hurrah, and when it didn’t work, I’d just accept being heavy forever.”

But it did work better than she dreamed it could! Florrie followed the plan created by the detox diet, and within four days of drinking green “cocktails”, she raves, “My body felt more alive.”  Instead of feeling frazzled like things were going to fall apart, I discovered an overall sense of well-being,” says Florrie. “I moved from rejecting my body to loving it.”
