Dieting has gone Digital: High Tech Calorie Trackers can really help you slim down!

Take the guesswork out of your weight loss program with Body Media Fit. This Multisensor monitor tracks over 9,000 variables every minute of the day so you know precisely how many calories are coming in and how many are going out.  It also tracks how well you’re sleeping.  A recent four month study suggests the device could help you lose two to three times more weight than dieting alone.

Knowledge is power:

It is very easy to lose track of how many calories you consume daily, and you never really know how many of those calories you burn. This device will tell you how many calories you burn in a day, not just in your workouts. And wow, you will be so surprised at how many calories you take in. Those calories really add up though out the day. Knowing your caloric intake isn’t a bad thing at all, this device actually counts calories and they sure do add up. It also tracks and moderates activities, walking/running, biking, and vigorous activities — an intense hill climbing cycling workout.  You will know when to kick it up a notch! You will also learn about your sleep patterns — it accurately tracks how restful your snoozes are.

    Dieting by numbers:

With this program, you can target a safe and realistic daily caloric deficit. You will understand the effects of your diet. If you are not eating enough, your body will go into fat storing mode — we all want to avoid this problem. There’s great nutritional information on the foods in the BodyMedia database. It  breaks down daily totals of each nutrient and this feature really helps monitor sugar consumption. However, the food database is limited and there’s not much in the way of ethnic foods or grocery store brands. Be prepared to enter information for your most eaten foods into the personal “My Foods” database; but once this is done you can easily select from a list of frequently eaten foods which makes calorie tracking easy and quick.

    Techy bits:

The web site is easy to navigate and understand, plus syncing the data from the armband with a PC or Mac is easy. But no official support for Safari 5.0 — come on now! That said, it seemed to work fine when running Safari on the Mac. There is no iPhone/iPad app and this would be extremely helpful for effectively entering calories consumed when out in the world. If not an app, a mobile web portal would do the trick. I think they should add a water consumption tracking to the foods page; hydration so important for weight loss.

This could be a really helpful weight loss tool to help you achieve your goals.

      1. Love mine. Great Product, Cool Company. Bought from Amazon in May 2010 and have lost 32 pounds to date. System is very user friendly and the detailed information it gives is incredible. Would recommend to anyone looking for motivation to get moving or trying to lose weight.

      2. I’ve been using the BodyMedia FIT armband for the past 3 months and it is the only diet and exercise system that I’ve found that really works. The system works through the use of an armband that you wear on your left arm throughout the day. As you go about your regular routine the armband measures your caloric burn. The armband uses four sensors to track over 9,000 variables from heat to sweat to steps to calories burned every minute of every day.

You can track your daily burn and steps taken through an optional display, but the real power is in syncing the armband to the BodyMedia web site which allows you to see charts of calories burned per minute, steps taken, exercise levels, sleep cycles, etc. You can also track your weight measurements in the tool. The great thing about the online tools is that it lets you enter your daily caloric intake (just search for a food and add it to a meal), and compares your incoming calories to outgoing calories. By entering your calories on a daily basis you can ensure a realistic caloric deficit which is guaranteed to help you lose weight safely. It’s very helpful for making sure you don’t starve yourself by eating too little, or conversely, that you don’t go crazy and eat too much.

      3. I recently started using the BodyMedia system as a way to help me with marathon training. As an endurance athlete, it’s tricky to shed a few pounds without sacrificing energy. I have never before counted calories in or out; I’ve just gone by feel, and I’ve been stuck about 7-8 pounds over my ideal “racing weight” for a number of years now.

The BodyMedia system gives me a way to track EXACTLY how many calories I am burning so that I can carefully craft what I eat (calories IN), lose weight sensibly and slowly, and not destroy my training by not having enough energy for tough workouts. What an incredible tool!

      4. I have been using my BodyMedia FIT system every day since March 30th – I’ve lost 14 pounds, dropped 4% body fat and 2 pants sizes! I feel great and have so much more energy!

I am getting in 30 minutes more of cardio daily, and have changed my food habits to more healthy snacking and less junk food. (Now if it would only zap me when I make a poor food choice!)
I also had a record number of steps 2 Fridays ago – just shy of 30,000. It is a great tool and I tell everyone who will listen all about it.
